Frenchman’s Cap in sunshine!
Bogong proprietor Neil Blundy visited Frenchman’s Cap in December with 3 of his children - a return visit after 25 years.
Weather.
Frenchman’s is notorious for bad weather; Neil had experienced his fair share in previous trips. This time however blue skies and superb vistas were had, as can be seen from the pictures.
The Route.
The usual access via the “Sodden Loddon Plains” and Lake Vera to Lake Tahune was taken. Due to the good weather the plains whilst muddy were in relatively good condition. From The Cap the party travelled north to cross the Franklin River at the Irenabyss. They continued north via a seldom travelled route to the highway via Mary Creek Plain and the Raglan range.
The Highlights.
Neil says certainly Lake Tahune - surely one of the most spectacular and beautiful lakes in Australia.
An unexpected high was a beautiful evening camping on the Mary Creek Plain with thunder clouds circling and Flat Bluff in the distance. A previously read review had described this area as a leech infested swamp, oh what a difference conditions can make.

Neil has walked in many areas of the globe but lists Tasmania as his favourite destination.
