Using the worldwide 406 MHz frequency Kannad has developed the GPS enabled 406 XS-3 in anticipation of the shut down of the 121 MHz frequency in February 2009. With twenty years of experience in the use of the 406 MHz frequency Kannad recognises that a 121 MHz PLB - accurate to within 1260km2 - is inefficient. The 406 MHz frequency and GPS system in the 406 XS-3 identifies the PLB user and locates them within a radius of 60 meters. With this the 406 XS-3 is not restricted to local environments and can be used in any country around the world.
The Kannad 406 XS3 GPS comes with a stylish belt carry pouch which will float when immersed in water.

What you can do with SPOT
SPOT's intuitive design allows you to communicate if four simple ways:

  • SOS: Notify both public and private emergency responders of your GPS location. SPOT sends one message every 5 minutes until power is depleted or SOS is cancelled
  • Check in: Let up to 10 contacts know where you are and that you're okay.  SPOT sends three identical messages to the SPOT service for redundancy.  The first of those three messages is delivered.
  • Help: Request help from friends and family and notify them of your exact location.  SPOT sends one message every 5 minutes for one hour or until Help is cancelled.
  • Custom Message: Create your own  custom non-urgent message to send to friends and family.
  • Track: Send and save your location and allow contacts to track your progress using Google MapsTM.  SPOT sends one message every 10 minutes for 24hrs or until SPOT is powered off.
