New Trail Running Brand

Aussie Grit apparel

Come visit our trail running corner, where we've just put our range of Aussie Grit trail running apparel on display. Aussie Grit is a new start-up spearheaded by former Formula One driver Mark Webber, whose other love is adventure racing. The brand produces apparel for cycling and running (we stock a selection of the running stuff). We like how functional this clothing is and how it performs. Come have a look for yourself, next time you're in-store.

When to Resole Your Climbing Shoes

Climbing Shoes

So, you spent your Christmas money on a new pair of climbing shoes. You're New-Year's-Resolutioning to the max and you've hit the gym four times a week for a couple of months. You've noticed your shoes are looking kind of trashed. You ask: Is this normal? The simple answer is yes, probably. In this article, we outline why climbing shoe rubber wears down and what you can do about it.

Merv's Info Sessions

They're back!

Merv's Info Sessions

Former Bogong Equipment staff member Merv's Info Sessions are back for another year. This year, we're running three of your favourites: Navigation Workshop, Navigation Field Day and Gear Care & Repair. Merv's Navigation Workshop, which he runs upstairs at Bogong Equipment, teaching people to navigate with map and compass, is usually very busy. Last year we had a booking system to ensure we didn't have to turn anyone away. We'll do the same this year, but bookings haven't opened yet. We'll send you an email when they do.

For now, pop these dates in your calendar:

Navigation Workshop: Monday 29 April, 6pm, Bogong Equipment
Navigation Field Day: Sunday 5 May, all day, somewhere in the bush
Gear Care & Repair: Wednesday 2 October, 6pm, Bogong Equipment

Recap: DMM Event @ Hardrock

DMM Event @ Hardrock

Climbing gear nerds unite! It was great to see you come down to Hardrock Climbing Gym in Melbourne's CBD to see our gear-breaking machine and break your old gear. We were thrilled to see some classic oldies, like Chouinard stoppers and Cassin screwgates. It was interesting to see how and where gear broke under strain.

Loads of you also supported access and crag care groups around the country by purchasing a limited edition DMM carabiner and entering DMM's national competition to win a rack.

On show, too, were bits and bobs flown in from the DMM factory in Wales, including machinery bits, casts and gear components.

Thank you to Chris from DMM for flying over and stopping by in Melbourne. We were glad to have you! A big thanks, also, to our hosts Hardrock Climbing Gym, who let us set up climbs with DMM quickdraws for you to clip, and a demonstration area for rigging up the DMM Pivot belay device.

Bogong Equipment was founded in 1989. Everyone who works at Bogong Equipment is a climber, hiker, mountaineer or runner. We have first-hand experience in cragging, multiday bushwalking, alpine climbing and trail running. We use the gear we sell. That means, we can tell you how a product truly performs in the field. That's how we only select the best gear to stock our shelves.

Our stock room in our brick-and-mortar store on Little Bourke Street, in Melbourne, is filled with purpose-designed, technical equipment. With our vast selection of gear, it can be tricky to know where to begin. Especially if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. That's why we employ knowledgeable, experienced staff. We can help you get equipped for your remote trekking expedition, your ice-cap crossing, climbing your first peak or simply your next wander in the hills.
