Details

Walking In Tarentaise Beaufortain Alps

This guide is somewhat dated now being published in 1995. Hence the discount. It has not been updated so this edition is still current but it does not have all the bells and whistles of the more recent cicerone guides. . The walk notes cover a fantastic area of France and it includes two excellent walks that have been walked by Bogong people. A superb 4 day walk in the Vanoise that takes in the Col du Grand Marchet would satisfy the most jaded mountain walker. And the 8 day Tour of the Beaufortain for those wanting something longer. Plus much more.

A cicerone guide to walking and trekking in the Tarentaise and Beaufortain Alps south of Mont Blanc, France, including the Maurienne, and the Vanoise and its national park. 53 day walks, 5 tours between 2 and 8 days’ duration, plus 40 short outings. Includes Méribel, Courchevel and Pralognan; Beaufortain and Northern Tarentaise; Val d'Isère.

This guidebook covers the delectable mountains south of the Mt Blanc group to include the Vanoise National Park.

An in-depth introduction describes many facets of the Tarentaise and deals with the differences likely to be found between walking in the UK and in the Alps. Following chapters cover six principal mountain regions:

  • Col de la Madeleine
  • Méribel, Courchevel & Pralognan
  • between Bourg St Maurice and Champagny
  • Beaufortain and Northern Tarentaise
  • Les Chapieux to Nant Cruet
  • Val d'Isère.

53 day-long outings are described and four tours of 2, 3, 4 and 8 days' duration, providing material for several holidays. In addition, some 40 short outings are described which should please the less addictive walker, or those preferring to remain at more modest altitudes.

Bogong owner Neil Blundy in the Vanoise National Park. Neil says if you are considering doing the Tour Du Mont Blanc give some thought into doing the Tour of the Vanoise instead! Every bit as spectacular but much quieter.
