When it comes to selecting a hiking pack for your hike, the right hiking pack for your needs will depend on how long your trip is and the amount of weight and bulk that you can comfortably handle carrying. Here's how to select the best pack for your next hiking adventure.
For shorter trips of roughly 1-2 nights, a 40-50 litre hiking pack is the most lightweight option for your needs. However, due to the limited space, you will need to carefully plan the supplies that you want to bring. For longer hikes of 3-5 to days, a 50-80 litre pack is a better option to ensure that you have the supplies that you need. These packs can be used for skiing and day trips, as well if there are more items that you want to bring.
For longer trips that will last 7 days or more, you should bring a pack that is 70 litres or larger. Other trips that will also require packs of this size include winter treks of any length so that you can bring a sleeping bag, tent and warm clothing. In addition, if you have young children that you will take along, the largest pack is also a good option to ensure that you have everything that you need for both the adults and the children.
When it comes to selecting hiking pack features, there any many things that you will need to consider including the frame, ventilation, storage, attachment points, padding and rain cover. After you have decided which features you prefer, select a hiking pack that is the appropriate size for your torso length and provides a comfortable snug fit around your hips.
