DMM Gear Breaking Night 2019 – North Walls

DMM Event @ North Walls

DMM is touring Australia once again. Chris Rowlands from DMM Wales has flown over to do a travelling showcase of DMM's latest new climbing products, including the much-anticipated DMM Dragonfly (flexible-stem microcam).

Chris will be carting around a 'gear-breaking machine', which is just as it sounds – a machine to break gear. The idea is that you can put old gear into this machine and watch as it puts forces onto the gear. Eventally, your gear might break, and you'll be able to see where it breaks and discuss what might have happened. It's a hands-on way to understand the strength of your gear and scenarios in which they may be likely to fail.

Chris has worked in several departments at DMM in Wales – including on the factory floor. As such, he knows these products inside out, so if you have questions about how carabiners and quickdraws are made, the different methods that can be used to forge components, and the different materials that can be used, and their pros and cons, Chris is the person to ask.

We will be setting up at North Walls for the evening. Here's how the evening will run:

  • Informally! Feel free to come and go as you please.
  • Bring along an old piece of gear you're happy to break.
  • Grab a special edition DMM Australian Tour carabiner (bring cash!) – proceeds go to Cliffcare.
  • Take a peek at shiny new DMM gear.
  • Handle factory bits and pieces.
  • Nerd out on gear!

No bookings required. If you're climbing, it's just North Walls' regular gym entry fee.
