Christmas List 2020

Putting together our Christmas list, we decided to go with a theme that focuses on some good: many of our brands have been working hard for a number of years on sustainability and have made significant achievements. Here are our top picks.

Edelrid HMS Bulletproof Screwgate Carabiner

Edelrid HMS Bulletproof Screwgate Carabiner, $49.95

This screwgate carabiner has a steel insert in a section of high wear. When it comes to sustainable textiles, there are endless possibilities. But the same can't be said of metals, and this has been a challenge for Edelrid. Their first step has been making the decision to use steel wherever necessary. Steel is more hardwearing than alloys, which prolongs the lifetime of not just hardware, but also the ropes being used in conjunction.

To do this without compromising on functionality has been a huge challenge for Deuter, because for a long time there has been no comparable alternative to these harmful chemicals. However, in 2012 suppliers and the chemicals started to work on alternative, environmentally friendly ways of making textiles waterproof. Deuter now only uses DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatments that are fully free from PFCs.
