Australian Para Climbing Team Camp 2025 - Glen Todd


Paraclimbing is open to athletes with a physical or vision impairment in men’s and women’s individual competitions. 2 months ago, Brand Ambassador Glen Todd attended the first Australian Paraclimbing Team Camp and and his second just recently. He is now on his way to the IFSC Para-Climbing World Cup Salt Lake City 2025!

First Camp

  • Top rope categories
  • Sydney, March 15-16 2025
  • Coaching and support, team building
  • Athletes from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland
  • Each competition requires performance plans, tie performance goals to world cups
  • They must be bulletproof with the why to get YES to compete

Day #1

  • Introduction - Meetings, seminars, theory and forms
  • Anti-doping test and Sport Integrity Australia training


Day #2

  • CLIMBING!
  • Breakfast together in cafe
  • Approx. 15 athletes in a team
  • Venue was Elevate Climbing in Villawood
  • Low top rope
  • Qualification and competiton simulations
  • Mindset of competing
  • World cup scenarios, warm up, ready time
  • No isolation, isolation is for finals
  • Warm-Up 1 hour, Climb 2 hours, Break, Climb 2 hours after that
  • Coach reviews, did well and improvements after first climb
  • 2x Qualifying routes
  • 2x Starting lists

Highlights

  • Meeting everyone and getting to know everyone
  • Watching everyone climb
  • Everyone was very encouraging when on the wall
  • Owner of Elevate is a registered IFSC route setter

 

Second Camp

  • Same location as Camp #1, May 3-4 2025

Day #1

  • Breakfast and 1 hour brainstorming session with fellow teammates
  • Went to the gym and CLIMBED!
  • Qualification simulation
  • Warm-up process, individual
  • 2x Routes set at IFSC standards

Day #2

  • Finals simulation
  • Warm-up process, athletes and coach in group
  • Same 2x routes as day before
  • 1x Climb on 2nd day, hardest of the 2x qualification routes


Highlight

A highlight of the weekend was having Australian Paralympic athlete, Rheed McCracken, present to the team on his experiences as a 4-time Paralympian and what it takes to become a 6-time Paralympic medalist. Rheed was also on hand to present the athletes with their 2025 team uniform - a very special moment for the athletes (Australian Climbing Team, Instagram post 8/5/25)
