Glen Todd - Australian International Paraclimbing Athlete
Glen Todd is a rock climber living with cerebral palsy and competing at an international level with the Australian Para Climbing Team. What a year 2024 has been for Glen. He has gone from climbing for only 16 months, to competing in his first IFSC World Cup in Salt Lake City USA, in May of 2024.
Glen won Australia’s First Male climbing medal, coming 3rd place in his first IFSC World Cup. Ever since winning bronze, Glen has excelled in his training and climbing skills. He has then gone onto competing in Innsbruck Austria where he came in 5th place.
Both times in Salt Lake City and Innsbruck, Glen made it into the final round of competition, (second day of competing). The final round was live streamed on YouTube, for the whole world to see. Being one of only a few Australian males on the world stage to be wearing the green and gold uniform, is one of Glen’s proudest moments.
That’s not all. Glen then went off to compete at the last of the 3x Para Climbing World Cups for the year including arguably in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, Italy, as well as the small and just as beautiful country town of Arco. Glen placed 10th in this World Cup to finish his campaign.
This year has been a huge and empowering year for Glen. Having never been overseas before in his life; he travelled on his own for 3x separate overseas adventures in just over 6 months.
On the days leading up to each competition, Glen stayed with teammates before going solo for a total of 3-4 days afterwards over all 3x trips. This just shows, even with a disability; Glen had the drive and eagerness to explore the countries and cultures that he had the opportunity to visit through Para Climbing.
2025 is only around the corner, with 3x more World Cups and a huge World Championship which happens every 2 years. Bring it on! Of course, Glen’s eyes are set on the 2028 Los Angeles Para Olympic Games.
Happy Climbing!
