As of 2022, Exped have completely updated their hiking mat range, to make buying as straightforward as possible. Exped simplified their mat range into three major categories; the Ultra, being lightweight with a small pack size, the Dura, which provides comfort and durability, and the Versa, the price-point option that’s versatile.

All mats in these new families are made with recycled polyester.

The quality that is expected from Exped products is maintained, but now achieved with recycled materials. Ultimately, this keeps more plastics out of landfill.

Production practices have been reformed to reduce the use of water, energy and carbon.

Key focuses in development are durability, reliability and repairability. They want to make sure that each one of their products has a long, useful life. Less wasted mats means less spending by you, and a cleaner planet for all.

Exped mats are the “first climate-neutral products of their kind on the market.”

They achieve this by working with myclimate, an international non-profit foundation that promotes climate protection and sustainable development through carbon offset projects. The climate-impacting emissions of products are calculated, from production to disposal. Then, CO2 equivalents are determined and are offset through projects that span the world. Exped support a project in northern Tanzania, whose goal is to protect endangered mammals from poaching and enforce village land use plans.
