International Rogaining Federation - 2027 World Championships
12th August, 2024 - The International Rogaining Federation has awarded the rights to host the 20th World Rogaining Championships to the Australian Rogaining Association. The Championships are planned for 16th-17th September, 2027 and will attract many hundreds of elite and veteran endurance cross-country navigators from around the world.
The Flinders Ranges in South Australia will host the event, the first World Rogaining Championships to be held in that state and the fifth World Championships to be held in Australia. The competition area will be based near the town of Hawker and offers technically challenging navigation amidst spectacular scenery in terrain that is very different from the wet forest locations of recent World Rogaining Championships. It is sure to provide a true test for the world’s top rogainers.
IRF President, Matt Bixley, said that it was pleasing to see the World Rogaining Championships returning to Australia, the birthplace of the sport, after an absence of eleven years. He also noted that conducting the World Rogaining Championships in the navigationally complex terrain of the Flinders Ranges provided a great opportunity for rogainers from across the world to test themselves in unfamiliar country as well as
showcase the spectacular beauty of the region.
IRF WRC Manager Jan Tojnar, who leads the selection process for World Rogaining Championships, said that the award to Australia is recognition of great depth of talent within the country for the organisation of major championship rogaines. The local organising team will be supported by personnel drawn from all of the Australian rogaining clubs across Australia.
