Back Country Foods Limited was originally established in 1998 in order to take over the freeze-dried meal business from the Alliance Freezing Company. Alliance was one of the first companies to design freeze-dry food processing for military and commercial use.
The freeze drying process allows goods to be dried using a vacuum evaporation process which means that the foods are completely dried without shrinking during processing. As a result, the prepared food is able to rehydrate faster, which gives you tastier and juicer foods.
The last step of the process involves heat-sealing in foil with the air surrounding the food being replaced with nitrogen gas. This final step allows these meals to last for three years or more without the addition of preservatives.
