Camelbak began in 1988 after bicycle enthusiast, Michael Eidson, competed in a 100-mile race in the gruelling summer heat of Wichita Falls, Texas in the United States. Water is essential for surviving this type of race and the race setup offered very few places to refill a water bottle. As an emergency medical technician by trade, Eidson decided to design his own water refilling station by filling an IV bag with water and slipping it into a white tube sock. Then he packed his invention into the back of his bike jersey, putting the thin hose over his shoulder and clamping it with a clothespin. Read more
