McMillans Walking Track isn't as well known as the Australian Alps Walking Track. However, McMillans is a 200km trail that skirts the southern edge of Victoria's alpine country. It crosses the Australian Alps Walking Track, but it's very different because rather than following the roof of Victoria, it delves into some deep valleys, with river crossings and isolated mountains. If you've done the Australian Alps Walking Track, you might enjoy McMillans as something different. Or, if you're working up to the Australian Alps Walking Track, McMillans is a good lead-up.

The walk takes up to 14 days, and can be done carrying all your supplies for the trip, or you can arrange food drops or meeting 2WD vehicles every two or three days.

McMillans starts from Woods Point, a small town in the mountains east of Melbourne. It ends at Alpine Road, 17km from Omeo, which is a small town in a broad valley in the centre of the alpine region.
