MERV TREASE COMPETED IN THE 2014 HOPPET
Saturday 23 August 2014 the Kangaroo Hoppet cross country ski race was run at Falls Creek for the 24th time. The standard 42 km course had to be shortened by 6km due to a lack of snow on one section. The weather was clear and mostly sunny with a little breeze, providing the many local and international skiers with spectacular views across the Bogong High Plains and beyond. The track was mostly hard and fast enabling a winning time of 1 hour 20 minutes. My time of 2:05 was the sixth fastest of the 27 males in my age group and 108 of the 305 finishers.
There were approx 1000 entrants for the three races (42 km, 21 km and 7 km). Read On
 
ANNA'S EUROPEAN MOUNTAINEERING SAFARI
Bogong staffer Anna Bolmat recently ventured to France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland on a mountaineering trip with her partner Philipp.They encountered unfavourable weather for large part of the trip which put the kibosh on their Mont Blanc attempts. Heavy snow fall and high winds turned them around at the Dome de Gouter. The consolation prize was a trip to Mt Blanc du Tacul, where European summer finally showed its face, resulting in some stunning views from the summit. Read On
 
NEIL CLIMBS AUSTRIA’S HIGHEST
In August Bogong owner Neil Blundy spent 3 weeks hiking in Romania’s Carpathian mountains and then Austria culminating with a successful ascent of the Grossglockner. Here is Neil’s story.
I first met the Grossglockner in 1993 on a six day hike through Austria's Hohe Tauern National Park. The thought of climbing it was immediately alluring. Not only because it is the highest mountain in Austria but also because of its beautiful shape. Read On
