Asolo Visits Bogong
Last month, we were lucky enough to welcome Asolo through the doors at Bogong Equipment. Bogong has had a long relationship with the walking boot company Asolo – one that has lasted around 20 years! We continue to stock boots from this family-owned business because of their devotion to producing high-quality boots, which are still manufactured in Europe.
Luca, whose family owns Asolo, gave a presentation to our staff to train us firsthand on history and making of Asolo footwear.

Staff Snippets: Introducing Ian
If you've been served by Ian, you're a lucky person! Ian comes to Bogong with a depth of rich outdoor experiences.
Although he was born in England, Ian has since lived in Australia and New Zealand for 55 years. During his childhood in Australia, Ian's father took him out fishing and hunting across Victoria's alpine areas, such as the Macalister and Mitchell rivers. His parents used take Ian and his best mate out in a canoe and drop them off in the wilderness with a rifle and a fishing rod, not returning until weeks later!
A thoroughly seasoned outdoorsperson, throughout the '80s Ian was a lighthouse keeper on remote islands in the tempestuous Bass Strait: Deal Island, Gabo Island, King Island, to name a few. He also did stints in Croajingolong, the Otways and Cape Nelson.
In 2010, Ian embarked on a 10-day holiday to New Zealand. He ended up staying for seven years. While tramping during his holiday, Ian got offered a job. He became a hut warden for the Department of Conservation (DOC), living at 1700 metres in alpine huts with a walk-in of about six hours for the average person. He would spend two weeks in each hut, before walking out again. In New Zealand, Ian was also employed as a conservation ranger for the DOC and a ranger for Christchurch City Council. Ian also worked on habitat restoration and on endangered species programs with a wildlife trust.
As you can imagine, Ian has done many multiday tramps across New Zealand, Tasmania, Central Australia and Victoria. His outdoor pursuits mainly include bushwalking, canoeing and kayaking.
If you see Ian about the store, say hello. We're sure he has many stories to tell!
