In this issue of the Bogong Newsletter: It's T-minus TWO WEEKS to go before REEL ROCK Film Tour lands in Melbourne! Get set: REEL ROCK has always been the definitive community event, featuring the best climbing-only films by an award-winning team.
This month, we're also joining DMM at Hardrock Climbing's CBD gym for a night of breaking gear and demo'ing toys.
Below, we also recap our first La Sportiva Climbing Shoe Demo that we held at North Walls Indoor Climbing in Brunswick.
All this, plus more news, and new arrivals from Mont, DMM, Chaco, prAna and Source.
REEL ROCK: Our Story
Annual Film Tour Lands 20th November
Every year we put on a one-night-only screening of the REEL ROCK Film Tour, which is a worldwide film tour that gets screened all around the world. In each little corner of the universe where REEL ROCK is screened, REEL ROCK tends to be the definitive annual event for climbing communities around the globe. REEL ROCK has a bit of a cult status – widely known amongst rockclimbers to showcase the year's best climbing films.
Bogong Equipment has been hosting REEL ROCK in Melbourne for the past nine years. It hasn't always been a moneymaker for us; it's more something that we like to bring to the community every year. Our current venue, The Astor, is always buzzing with a familiar atmosphere.
If you've been to a REEL ROCK screening before you'll know that there's always a highly engaged audience, loudly ooh-ing and ahh-ing and sometimes crying out mid-film when excitement hits. It's an energy-filled space of psych and friendship.

Event: DMM @ Hardrock Climbing Gym
WHAT: DMM Gear Breaking Night!
WHEN: Wednesday 21 November, 6pm to 8pm
WHERE: Hardrock Climbing Gym, Melbourne CBD
This November, DMM representative Chris is flying over from the UK to tour Australia. During his visit, he'll be stopping in Melbourne to run a special demonstration, where he'll be using a purpose-built machine to test the breaking points of different types of gear.
You're invited to bring any old, retired gear you might have and see how it fares on the breaking machine! Or, you can simply come and watch other people's gear get broken. It's interesting to discover where gear tends to break to better understand the equipment on your harness.
On the night, we'll also have new 2019 DMM toys that you can demo and take a poke at.
Entry is free if you're just taking a gander. If you're climbing, it's just Hardrock's regular gym entry fee. No bookings needed.

Recap: La Sportiva Shoe Demo
Wow! We were so psyched to see so many of you join in our La Sportiva shoe demo night, which we held at North Walls Climbing Gym last month.
Our little pop-up shop was pumping from the moment we stepped in the doors, and we were so thrilled that you guys were so keen to have a climb in our shoes.
Matt 'Mr La Sportiva' Adams drove down from Sydney with a fleet La Sportiva Otaki, La Sportiva Solution Men's and La Sportiva Solution Women's models for you to try out. And, we were happy to see lots you take advantage of our on-the-night deals. We hope you got away with lots of goodies.
Thanks for the buzzing atmosphere and high levels of psych! We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Recap: DMM Pink!
This year, DMM produced FOUR special edition pieces of climbing equipment: the DMM Aero HMS Screwgate Carabiner, the DMM Aero Quickdraw (in both 12cm and 18cm lengths) and ultra-popular DMM Pivot belay device. All of them were made in pink, and for every sale, $2 is donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia.
The screwgate carabiners have been flying out of the door, and we're completely out of pink Pivot belay devices. We still have a few quickdraws and screwgates left – so, if you want them, get in quick. Once they're gone, they're gone!

Video: Sea to Summit Alpha Pots
Earlier this year, our former staff member Christian Lavery returned to Australia for a brief tour. During his travels, we sent him out with a set of Sea to Summit Alpha Pots to test. Christian is a film student: Last year, we screened one of his films Roots, Rock, Arapiles during our Melbourne screening of REEL ROCK Film Tour. He put together this video with his review of the Alpha Pots.
