Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
With early snowfall, several Bogong staff have already ventured out to the snow! Great timing for our new ski gear, which will continue to trickle in as the season really gets underway. We have been training up our staff, and we've also been busily unpacking loads of boxes of brand new gear, from new Ortlieb packs to new walking poles, to new climbing clothing.
Plus, new arrivals from Scott, LEKI, Black Diamond, SteriPEN and more.

As a thank-you to us for being their exclusive retail sponsors in Melbourne, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson will be coming to Bogong Equipment on the morning of Saturday 20 July, to meet all of you! We'll have posters you can get signed, plus a limited number of Tommy's memoir The Push.
This is a rare opportunity to meet these two living legends.

Meeting the guys will be a first-come first-serve set-up.
Also, very important – you do not need to pay for this local in-store event! We're making it totally free. You don't have to buy anything, or get a ticket... just rock up and meet the boys. That's all!

Recap: Navigation Field Trip
"Our Navigation Field Day was brilliant and rewarding! We had 20 people out in ideal conditions, and we managed to work out a route that avoided the rubbish terrain on the map. Beaming smiles. The level of skill development was very high – a total success. We hope this experience enables you to more safely and enjoyably spend time in the bush." – MERV
Recap: La Sportiva Shoe Demo
Cliffhanger Indoor Climbing Gym
Last month James, Chelsea and Andy (La Sportiva representative) headed over to Cliffhanger Indoor Climbing Gym in Altona to bring a fleet of La Sportiva demo shoes to the gym for gym-goers to try out during their usual gym session. We had great fun outfitting you guys, and we were glad to introduce some of our great range of La Sportiva climbing shoes to you all. Thanks for having us!
Staff Snippets: Introducing Sam
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in rural Far North Queensland, in a town called Atherton. I lived in that area until I left home at 17. I then lived in Mackay for a year, Rockhampton for a year, before ending up in Melbourne for uni.
Growing up, what were your defining outdoor experiences?
Growing up in a small town meant that we were always outdoors. I pretty much spent my entire childhood as a competitive swimmer – competing at local events, state and national championships (pretty sure a couple of my records still stand at the local Atherton pool). My parents weren’t particularly interested in camping and stuff, but I had lots of friends who were, so I did stuff with them, and played on farms and was generally out and about in the wild.
What did you do at school/uni?
I have a Bachelor of Music from Monash University with First Class Honours, a Masters of Music, and I’m currently on a scholarship completing a multi-disciplinary PhD at Monash University that engages with philosophy of music.
What are your main outdoor pursuits?
I’m predominately a trail runner. But I really love hiking and bushwalking, as well as the odd car-camping trip. Recently I’ve started getting into the world of FastPacking and I’m really keen to get more experiences there.
Tell us a bit about your experience in these areas.
When I discovered trail running, suddenly running went from therapy to a passion. I really got into it when I lived in Tasmania. I’ve run over a good number of hills in Tassie. At some point I decided I wanted to try and run each of the ‘60 great short walks’ (this seemed like a good way to see some parts of Tassie I hadn’t seen yet, and since they’re pretty much daywalks, it seemed like an achievable goal). I didn’t quite make all 60 before I moved here to Melbourne, but I got most of them!
If you see Sam about the store, say hello!

Bogong on Social
Did you know that Bogong Equipment is on Facebook and Instagram? We're keeping you guys updated with events, community updates and cool new stuff as it arrives in the store. To stay in the loop, follow our Facebook page and on Instagram at @bogongequipment
Bogong Equipment was founded in 1989. Everyone who works at Bogong Equipment is a climber, hiker, mountaineer or runner. We have first-hand experience in cragging, multiday bushwalking, alpine climbing and trail running. We use the gear we sell. That means, we can tell you how a product truly performs in the field. That's how we only select the best gear to stock our shelves.
Our stock room in our brick-and-mortar store on Little Bourke Street, in Melbourne, is filled with purpose-designed, technical equipment. With our vast selection of gear, it can be tricky to know where to begin. Especially if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. That's why we employ knowledgeable, experienced staff. We can help you get equipped for your remote trekking expedition, your ice-cap crossing, climbing your first peak or simply your next wander in the hills.
