Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
Hello, everyone. We have loads of new goodies in store, with more due to arrive in the coming weeks. In the mix is a brand-new climbing shoe from La Sportiva – the Theory. For the hikers, we have Mont's new, modular ultralight tent system. For the trail runners, we have news from the trail via our supported athlete Matt Crehan, who ran the Surf Coast Century late last year (right after Melbourne's ring of steel was lifted) and more recently the Cradle Mountain Run, which he won for the second year in a row. Below we also highlight new gear from DMM, Salomon, Exped, Rab, SAXX and more. Plus, we introduce La Sportiva Australia's very own podcast, which appears in both a video format on YouTube and on your regular podcast platforms.
Happy reading, and PS we are now open as usual.

Mont Batwing/Batcave
Modular Ultralight Tent Setup
Our latest ultralight offering in our tent range is the Mont Batwing/Batcave. This is a modular system comprised of two products. Get them both, or just one – the choice is yours.
The Batwing Tarp comes in two sizes (medium and large). Both sizes are made from ultralight 20-denier ripstop nylon siliconised on both sides. Both versions come with tent pegs and guy lines.
The Batcave is a mesh tent designed for one or two people. It's effectively a bug shelter, with a waterproof floor rated to 5000mm. Combines with the Batwing Tarp to form a three-season shelter system.

La Sportiva Theory
New climbing shoe
It’s no secret that La Sportiva has been a favourite of Bogong customers and staff, for many years. Their range of mountain footwear is truly world-leading, whether it’s climbing shoes, mountaineering boots, mountain running shoes or hiking footwear. But did you know that La Sportiva is now making a full range of technical apparel for the outdoor pursuits all designed at their headquarters in the Dolomites, Italy?
The Theory is a brand-new shoe from La Sportiva. Designed to suit modern gyms and the modernday climber and boulderer, the Theory is an extremely lightweight, and sensitive yet powerful climbing shoe. Its ability to provide stiffness when needed and softness where required is a product of its unique design. The 'wing' construction of the rubber stiffens the midsole when engaged.
Read more about the La Sportiva Theory in our staff member Will's blog post here, or on its product page here.

Matt Crehan Runs the Overland Track in under 8 hours
Bogong supported athlete Matt Crehan recently participated in the annual Cradle Mountain Run: an ultra, running the length of the Overland Track from Waldheim Cabins near Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.
Matt not only crossed the line in first place, but completed the course in the highly respectable time of 7 hours and 49 minutes.
Read about his race (which occurred a day after the region got 90mm of rainfall!) in his blog post, here.

Recap
Surf Coast Century
We couldn't get down to the Surf Coast Century trail running event held in Anglesea this year, thanks to COVID. However, the race went ahead with some changes (e.g. staggered starts).
Bogong Equipment supported athlete Matt Crehan ran this race with training somewhat stimied by the COVID lockdown 2.0 in Melbourne.
