La Sportiva Solution COMP, Karacal, SNAP climbing and what's new.
Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
Lots of new gear has landed at Bogong, including the much anticipated La Sportiva Solution COMP and La Sportiva Karacal. New colours have arrived for Outdoor Research favourites. Plus, we have several new brands: SNAP, which makes a big range of durable boulder pads for the eco-minded climber; COROS, a brand of GPS watches that offer the best battery life of any sport watches we've seen.
We also recap what Bogong supported athlete Matt Crehan has been up to (a lot!). And, we share a bunch of photos from the recent North Walls Redpoint Series, which we were a major sponsor for. Also, look out for Bogong staff member Will's latest climbing shoe review (the Testarossa) and some sneaky industrial gear and climbing rope specials. You're welcome!

SNAP Climbing
New Brand
SNAP is a new brand for us at Bogong. We've brought in a range of their boulder pads, plus a selection of their packs (designed to take you from work to gym) and a couple of chalk bags and buckets.
The boulder pad range is quite extensive, with 8 mats to choose from! They range from light and easy-to-carry (e.g. SNAP Hip Boulder Mat) to beasts that will give you courage on the highest boulders (e.g. SNAP Grand Wham Boulder Mat).

La Sportiva Solution Comp
New Climbing Shoe!
The much-anticipated La Sportiva Solution Comp is here! This is a brand-new shoe from La Sportiva, built on the bones of the perennial favourite La Sportiva Solution. For those of you who have been praying to the Solution gods, you have been heard: the Solution Comp has a different heel – it's more traditional and lower volume, with thinner rubber than the original Solution.
Other changes culminate in a version of the Solution that is generally lighter and softer. The toe rubber is thinner (although it covers a larger surface area for greater contact when toe-hooking).
For more specs and details, check out the Solution Comp at the link below.

Bogong Supported Athlete Update
Matt Crehan
Bogong supported athlete Matt Crehan has been on form lately. In our last eNewsletter we reported that he'd just won the Cradle Mountain Run in under 8 hours.
Since then, Matt has come 1st in the 44K at the Mt Baw Baw Trail Fest, 1st in the 64K at the Razorback Run in March, 1st in the 45K at the Mt Buller Skyrun also in March and 1st in the Alpine Challenge 100-Miler.
The latter goes up and down Victoria's highest peaks, including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, Mt McKay, Spion Kopje and Mt Bogong with a total elevation of over 7600m. It's regarded as one of the hardest (if not the hardest) mountain runs in Australia. Matt set a course record in 22:26:21.
As if that isn't impressive enough, just two weeks after his 100-miler, Matt backed it up by crossing the line 1st at the Margaret River Ultra Marathon. Respect!
Gear Review
La Sportiva Testarossa
Our resident climbing shoe reviewer Will has reviewed the La Sportiva Testarossa, which was updated in 2019. Here's what he has to say about it: how it compares to the La Sportiva Solution, how it fits, how it performs, what's been updated and what type of climbing the shoe is designed for.

Recap
North Walls Redpoint Series
We were glad to be part of North Walls' social competition in March. North Walls ran a social series during the month, culminating in a 'finals night' where there were finals routes and prizes. Bogong supported this local event by becoming the event's official shoe sponsor, giving away three pairs of high-end La Sportiva climbing shoes. Great to see that everyone had a good time!
