Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
Welcome to the Bogong Newsletter
We have so much new gear that it was hard to pick what should appear in this newsletter! We have a brand-new alpine touring ski boot – the Salomon Shift Pro 100, as well as a new climbing shoe from La Sportiva, the Kubo. We also have a bunch of new trail running gear – the new range of Bridgedale trail running socks (tested by staff already, and really rated!) and running vests from Dynafit (yes, they make trail running gear, as a mountain brand). We've also dug up our blog article on winter hiking, which has loads of tips and considerations you may not have thought of yet when it comes to bushwalking in the cooler months.
See you in-store and online soon.

Salomon Shift Pro 100
Ski Boots for Alpine Touring

New in! These modern Salomon ski boots have lots of features that make them a great alpine touring option. They have good mobility for the uphills, yet also have good stability and power transfer for the downhills.
The Shift Pro 100 is known for its exceptional fit. The lining doesn't have seams on the inside or outside, and is preshaped and anatomically designed. The lower shell of the boots can be customised to better fit you.
There are loads more features, like the polyamid spine, GripWalk pads, hiking hook and more. Have a look at them at the link below.

La Sportiva Kubo
New climbing shoe

The La Sportiva Kubo is a brand-new climbing shoe from La Sportiva.
This is designed to be a gym training shoe. However, it's not your run-of-the-mill durable but clunky shoe. The Kubo has elements that makes it a workhorse – the generous rubber up front; the big, durable toe patch; the 4mm rubber. Still, it has many features that also make it a good technical shoe. It has a very low-profile midfoot/arch area. Combined with the unlined leather upper, and a new heel from La Sportiva that is integrated with the sole, this creates quite a flexy shoe that is designed for volumes and the variety of holds you find indoors.
La Sportiva hasn't skimped on the rubber, either. On the men's, it's 4mm of Vibram XS Edge, and on the women's it's 4mm of Vibram XS Grip2. These are the same rubbers and thicknesses used on technical shoes from La Sportiva's range, such as the Katana, the Miura and the Kataki.
If you're after a gym shoe that you want to do mileage in (but obviously could also use outdoors), check out the La Sportiva Kubo.

Coloured chalk

This chalk has been a long time coming. It involved negotiations with three global suppliers! We wouldn't have thought it would be so hard. We'd hoped to have these about six months ago. However, such is life, and at least it's here. Personally tested by several Bogong staff before it went into production, this coloured chalk is the best hue we found for Grampians sandstone and some of the lighter rock at Araps. Although you can still see it on the rock if you know what you're looking for, it is much less obvious than white chalk, and could conceivably pass as a natural variation in the rock. We hope that bringing this to the community helps with minimising our impact at the crag.

Bridgedale Trail Run Socks
New range!

They're here! Bridgedale socks are popular with hikers visiting our store. Now there's a range of socks for trail running.
These socks are built to the same high quality of Bridgedale hiking socks, with just as many deliberate design decisions. Bridgedale trail running socks have zoned padding, supportive compression through the cuff and arch, shaped heel and open-mesh structure for ventilation.
We have the Ultra Light range in both vegan-friendly Coolmax versions and highly moisture-wicking Merino.
Bridgedale specialises in socks that are built for the demands of outdoor use and are known to be robust and hardwearing socks.

Surf Coast Century Leg 3 Training Day
Anglesea

Our Bogong supported athlete Matt Crehan will be attending the Surf Coast Century Leg 3 Training Day being held by race organisers Rapid Ascent on Sunday 25 July.
After running Leg 3, Matt will talk about racing the course: what he found easy, and what was difficult. Having podiumed at this race more than once, he's familiar with the course and how best to train for it.
Can't make it down on 25 July? We ran #AskMattCrehan on Instagram over the past couple of weeks. If you missed Matt's answers in our Instagram Stories, check them all out in our Highlights on our Instagram profile.
See training day info on Rapid Ascent's Facebook event page >>
