Sterling XEROS
New dry rope technology that is more effective, wear resistant and better for the environment.
Sterling XEROS is the culmination of a three year development by Sterling and their bluesign® certified nylon yarn supplier. This exclusive partnership created the new XEROS technology; a rethinking on how to make UIAA-Certified dry rope that’s a better all-around rope, while also being better for the environment.
Most dry ropes on the market are given a coating or liquid bath treatment, which covers the full rope once it has been made. Sterling’s approach takes a step back, providing water resistance to each nylon filament, before being twisted into the yarn that makes your rope.
Both the core and sheath are now protected because of this process. You can expect far better water resistance in the rope. Treating the fibres at filament level means the bathing treatment process is scrapped, removing most of the chemical waste in making ropes and therefore reducing waste.

Sterling utilises a yarn supplier who is a system partner with the stringent bluesign® certification. Buyers can be sure that the raw materials used in the XEROS ropes are managed to the highest standards.
If you missed out on our last eNews Sustainability Spotlight, read about what bluesign® certification is on our Sustainability Spotlight webpage here.
Major reductions in energy and labour are achieved by eliminating usual standards in the production of dry ropes (without undermining the quality). This further highlights how seriously Sterling has taken the XEROS rope and their commitment to producing a sustainable dry rope.
At Bogong, we stock 60 and 70 m lengths of XEROS ropes, in the varieties listed below:
