"I am very brand loyal with my outdoor gear, but after several Therm-a-Rest NeoAir fails, it was suggested that I try an EXPED. Well, apart from getting used to a few differences in the set-up, I was very impressed from the first of many nights that I used the EXPED SynMat UL Winter. The first striking difference was the feel and finish of the mat – silky-smooth and soft, yet grippy, somehow! No more slip-sliding around the mat. It is also super quiet to sleep on – no more waking myself up rolling over on a ‘chip-packet’. Using the Schnozzel Pumpbag took a little getting used to, but it is a nifty method that eliminates the age-old problem of moisture: it is common sense science that if you put moisture (from your breath) into a mat and it freezes, then you will have problems inside the mat. I spend between 20 and 30 nights a year snow camping, so that is very important for me. On my last Therm-a-Rest NeoAir, the nozzle was freezing just before it developed its hernia... so, after twenty-plus years of faithful brand loyalty, I am happily jumping to the EXPED ship."
